The Foundational Competencies for Undergraduate Medical Education (FCUME) were developed jointly by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) to define the core knowledge, skills, and professional behaviors expected of all graduating medical students. They provide a common framework for competency-based medical education, facilitating data comparison at the local and national levels. Thus, they serve as the foundation for our program objectives, curriculum development, and assessment efforts.
Because the Medical Knowledge competency described by the FCUME is so broad, we further map two distinct domains of Medical Knowledge disciplines to aid curriculum development and assessment efforts. These are Foundational Biomedical Science (FBS) knowledge and Clinical Science (CS) knowledge. National osteopathic examination blueprints help define and organize the knowledge taught in each of these domains and related disciplines, enabling comparison of institution level data to nationally comparative data to aid student exam preparation and continuous quality improvement of the curriculum.
Provides metrics related to specific courses including competency, discipline, and objective coverage along with related sessions, session types, and faculty for courses in the DO curriculum. For faculty specific information, see the Faculty page.
Explore curriculum coverage for any individual mapped objective. Select a competency group to browse its objectives, then choose an objective to see session volume, delivery formats, contributing courses, and faculty.
Provides metrics related to specific faculty including competency, discipline, and objective coverage along with related courses, sessions, and session types in the DO curriculum. For course specific information, see the Courses page.
Provides a snapshot of “thread” coverage in the DO curriculum, including related courses, sessions, faculty, and session types. Please note: This list of threads and disciplines is still in development based on college needs and reporting requirements.
Provides metrics related to specific COCA-aligned competencies including objective coverage and session distribution across the two-year preclerkship curriculum. These competencies demonstrate integrated, longitudinal instruction across multiple FCUME domains.
Shows how competency groups and disciplines are sequenced across the two-year preclerkship curriculum month by month, split by year.
Shows session counts at the intersection of each course and competency group or discipline, revealing coverage patterns and potential blind spots across the curriculum.
Provides a “small picture” snapshot of coverage of specific objectives related to competencies, foundational science disciplines, and clinical science presentations. Items sorted from lowest to highest session count.
Highlights courses and sessions in the DO curriculum with missing curriculum mapping at the session level.
